Cycling from coast to coast and sharing online

The Great British Food CycleTim Keates was referred to us by a great friend of LogicSpot. His request was a bit different to the norm – so it got our creative and technical juices flowing before we’d even started. Tim wanted to deliver a website and blog that would very easily plan and record a cycle ride he was undertaking for charity and be able to share that with his friends, co-workers, sponsors and press.

Tim also wanted to get this done in 4 days.

Oh, and Tim wanted to be able to setup and maintain the Google Maps himself but had no technical knowledge whatsoever.

And Tim also wanted to be able to blog during the journey from his Blackberry onto the website.

So not much to deliver then. But, as I said, we like requests that are a bit different and rose to the challenge.

Technical delivery

We created a WordPress website for Tim and set about coming up with a simple, effective design for him.

We then got to work on how the maps could be integrated with WordPress – all the plugins we found for integrating WordPress with Google Maps were not cutting the mustard – so we wrote our own php plugin, tested it pretty quickly and implemented it onto his site.

We then put together a sample Google Map for him under a new Google account and gave him access and us access to it so we could train and support him both before and during the cycle journey.

The Blackberry blogging was nice and simple to deliver.

And Tim was ready and raring to go about half a day before he had to pack his bag and get on his bike.

A one-off development for a wonderful cycle ride that was a complete success.

Thanks, Tim for giving us the opportunity to help you make a difference.
